Do Dham – Gangotri and Yamunotri

Gangotri and Yamunotri are the two of the most important shrine in India that stand as a symbol of not only the divine Hindu tradition but also as the epitome of the countries prosperity and development. These temples are the way to pay respect to the two of India’s greatest rivers. Along with the being sacred to the hindu traditions these shrines are the most beautiful places in the country with abundance of natural beauty, wonders of nature.
Gangotri
Lying at a distance of 100 Kms from the Town of Uttarkashi is the seat for goddess Ganga. It is the place where she descended from heaven to clean the sins of humans. Such was the fury and strength that Lord Shiva himself had to keep her in his hair to slow and save humanity from her strength. Bagirathi the tributary that flow along the temple is swift and instills the reality to the story as portrayed in the hindu scriptures.
Yamunotri:
The yatra to Yamunotri starts from Jankichatti the last place reachable on vehicles. The beyond jankichatti devotees have to walk uphill for next 14kilometers to reach the temple. The other options that one can choose are the pony rides and Palki carriages, of which the Palki carriages are a comparatively comfortable and safe. The geographical origin of Yamuna River, the Gangotri does not lie near the temple but somewhere up in the Himalayas in the Bandherpunch.

Thus these two hindu shrines stand for not only the spiritual significance but also as the symbol of Nature’s benevolence and gift to the mankind. May be that is the reason why the chardham yatra has been give such a value in the Hindu traditions as it actually pays respect to the mother nature. Do Dham - Kedarnath and Badrinath Temple

Hindu religion puts a lot of emphasis on pilgrimage for the purity of soul and finding the inner self. Kedarnath Dham: located at the altitude of 3584m above the sea level kedarnath is situated near the Mandakini river. This is one of the most difficult temple to be reached due to the difficult terrain and bad weather conditions. There is also shortage of oygen near the temple sue to the elevation. Across the temple there are views of snow capped Greater Himalayas and various peaks.considered to be one the jotirlings and is the most important of the Panch Kedar temple that are present in the state of Uttarakhand.

Badrinath Dham: situated on the bank of Alaknanda River ,in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. Badrinath is a major attraction. A meter tall statue of Lord Vishnu is called as the Badrivishal. This statue is made up of black "Saligram" stone, which is known to be one of the eight self-manifested statues of Vishnu in a meditative posture. According to the mythological facts, lord Vishnu meditated for 1000 years for the welfare of mankind.

Chardham Yatra - About Hindu Temples

Chardham yatra is the tour of four of the most revered religious Hindu temples. The yatra crisscrosses the higher Himalayas in the India state of Uttarakhand to visit all the four shrines. Every summer laces of devotees visit these four shrines to cleanse their soul and attempt to attain salvation. The Chardham Yatra 2013 opens with the start of prayers in all the temples in th summer months. The four temples that are included in the char dham are: The Gangotri Dham, The Yamunotri Dham, Shri Kedarnath jee and the most important of all Shree Badrinath jee.



Let us see all the four dhams individually:

The Gangotri Dham: this temple is dedicated to goddess Ganga. The geographical origin of Ganga lies few kms beyond the temple in the angotri Glacier.

Yamunotri is the second Dham visited before Gangotri , Kedarnath and Badrinath (all destinations in order). Yamunotri and Gangotri are the temples that are dedicated to the goddesses of Yamuna and Ganga respectively.

Kedarnath Dham: most important of the Panch kedar’s in Uttarakhand. Kedarnath temple is dedicated to lord shiva. The legend has that after Mahabharata got over the pandavas were in search for Lord shiva to get the the blessing and to absolve itself of all the sins they commited during the war. God being angry with them for the war was not willing to meet them and hence came to Guptkashi to hide.

Badrinath: Badrinath is deidacted to lord Vishnu. It is believed that during older times this place ahd a lot of wild berry trees called Badri and hence the deity is also called Badrivishal. It is the largest and most important of all the temples in the entire country.
