Gangotri and Yamunotri are the two of the most important shrine in India that stand as a symbol of not only the divine Hindu tradition but also as the epitome of the countries prosperity and development. These temples are the way to pay respect to the two of India’s greatest rivers. Along with the being sacred to the hindu traditions these shrines are the most beautiful places in the country with abundance of natural beauty, wonders of nature.
Gangotri
Lying at a distance of 100 Kms from the Town of Uttarkashi is the seat for goddess Ganga. It is the place where she descended from heaven to clean the sins of humans. Such was the fury and strength that Lord Shiva himself had to keep her in his hair to slow and save humanity from her strength. Bagirathi the tributary that flow along the temple is swift and instills the reality to the story as portrayed in the hindu scriptures.
Yamunotri:
The yatra to Yamunotri starts from Jankichatti the last place reachable on vehicles. The beyond jankichatti devotees have to walk uphill for next 14kilometers to reach the temple. The other options that one can choose are the pony rides and Palki carriages, of which the Palki carriages are a comparatively comfortable and safe. The geographical origin of Yamuna River, the Gangotri does not lie near the temple but somewhere up in the Himalayas in the Bandherpunch.

Thus these two hindu shrines stand for not only the spiritual significance but also as the symbol of Nature’s benevolence and gift to the mankind. May be that is the reason why the chardham yatra has been give such a value in the Hindu traditions as it actually pays respect to the mother nature.
