Chardham Yatra - About Hindu Temples

Chardham yatra is the tour of four of the most revered religious Hindu temples. The yatra crisscrosses the higher Himalayas in the India state of Uttarakhand to visit all the four shrines. Every summer laces of devotees visit these four shrines to cleanse their soul and attempt to attain salvation. The Chardham Yatra 2013 opens with the start of prayers in all the temples in th summer months. The four temples that are included in the char dham are: The Gangotri Dham, The Yamunotri Dham, Shri Kedarnath jee and the most important of all Shree Badrinath jee.



Let us see all the four dhams individually:

The Gangotri Dham: this temple is dedicated to goddess Ganga. The geographical origin of Ganga lies few kms beyond the temple in the angotri Glacier.

Yamunotri is the second Dham visited before Gangotri , Kedarnath and Badrinath (all destinations in order). Yamunotri and Gangotri are the temples that are dedicated to the goddesses of Yamuna and Ganga respectively.

Kedarnath Dham: most important of the Panch kedar’s in Uttarakhand. Kedarnath temple is dedicated to lord shiva. The legend has that after Mahabharata got over the pandavas were in search for Lord shiva to get the the blessing and to absolve itself of all the sins they commited during the war. God being angry with them for the war was not willing to meet them and hence came to Guptkashi to hide.

Badrinath: Badrinath is deidacted to lord Vishnu. It is believed that during older times this place ahd a lot of wild berry trees called Badri and hence the deity is also called Badrivishal. It is the largest and most important of all the temples in the entire country.
